This is the fourth season of the latest anime adaptation and it will have three parts shown in cinemas for three weeks at a time before they get broadcast on television.

Synopsis: Two interstellar human states – the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance – are locked in a seemingly never-ending conflict and two leaders emerge, Reinhard von Lohengramm from the Galactic Empire and Yang Wen-li from the Free Planets Alliance.

The Galactic Empire is gaining support from the people it governs as Reinhard’s reforms bring benefits. Meanwhile, the Free Planets Alliance is in decline due to government corruption despite Yang’s efforts. While all of this is going on, a third power enters the fray, the Free Dominion of Phezzan, which is under the leadership of Adrian Rubinsky. His target is the weakening of the Free Planet Alliance. Yuki Tanada has racked up an impressive filmography with titles like One Million Yen and the Nigamushi Woman, The Cowards Who Looked to the Sky, My Dad and Mr. Ito, and Romance Doll. This is her latest title and she works with experienced screenwriter Kosuke Muka (Nobuhiro Yamashita’s regular writer) to bring to life a manga. It won Best Screenplay at the recent Fantasia Film Awards. It stars Mei Nagano (Parks) and Nao (The Sound of Grass). 

Synopsis: Tomoyo Shiino is an office lady going through a patch of depression. When she learns of the suicide of her best friend, Mariko Ikagawa, it prompts Tomoyo to launch a rescue mission. Tomoyo knew that Mariko was abused by her father for a long time and so, in order to save Mariko’s soul, Tomoyo steals her ashes from Mariko’s family and goes on a journey with memories of Mariko.

Synopsis: Makimoto is a man who keeps to himself mostly because he works at a small city hall as an “omimokuri-shi,” a person responsible for holding the burial service for people who have passed away without any family to bury them. When a new boss decides to abolish the “Omimokuri” department, Makimoto’s last task is to bury Kaburaki, an elderly man who passed away without any relatives, he goes on a search to find Kaburaki’s relatives and eventually finds his daughter, Toko. This journey helps Makimoto change himself.

This aired on Disney+ in Japan earlier in September. It’s the latest adaptation of a Tomihiko Morimi (The Night is Short, Walk On Girl) work and it’s supposed to be good. Tatami Galaxy, its precursor, is a wonderful show and it’s great to see the cast re-unite for this.

Synopsis: “I”, the protagonist, is living in an old boarding house “Shimogamo Yusuisuiso” in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. His trouble-making friend Ozu gets the only air conditioner remote control wet and breaks it on a sweltering midsummer day. Just as the students wonder what to do about the situation, Tamura, an unstylish male student from 25 years in the future, arrives in a time machine and “I” decides to go back one night to save the remote control. However, things go awry…

This is the second entry in the “ROMAN PORNO NOW” project wherein three directors were tapped to work on three films to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Nikkatsu Roman Porno. The last one was Hands released earlier this month.

Synopsis: Misa is an underground idol who is interviewed for a documentary where she is scouted by the owner of an S&M lounge called “H.” There, she meets a dominatrix named Kanon and is awakened to a pleasure she never knew existed and decides to become to of her passions by becoming an S&M idol.
