009 RE:Cyborg Trailer

Although I have never heard of it before 009 RE:Cyborg attracted my attention last year when I learned that that there is a new movie adaptation soon to be released  and it was directed by Kanji Kamiyama and the music is created by Kenji Kawai. Now a trailer for 009 RE:Cyborg was put on the website last week. The anime is based on Shotaro Ishinomori’s manga which ran from 1964 to 1981 and was collected into 36 volumes. There have been three films and three TV series. According to Wikipedia Shotaro Ishinomori was mentored by Osamu Tezuka (it shows in his art style) and his work was pretty influential in magna, anime, and (ugh) tokusatsu. He was pretty important in the genesis of the Kamen Rider Series which recently got a new movie instalment on the same day the trailer in this post! After watching the trailer I’m feeling pretty excited about the film!

Synopsis

The story follows a group of nine people who were kidnapped from across the world for a project involving human experimentation. These people are turned into cyborgs but escape and turn their new powers against their former captors in order to protect humanity from them. When skyscrapers in London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York are destroyed by simultaneous bombings, causing widespread panic throughout the world, the nine cyborg fighter reunite, but their former leader is living alone in Tokyo with his memories wiped.
