This week I continue my Akira Kurosawa season by watching No Regrets For Our Youth starring Setsuko Hara, a regular in Ozu’s films, and I believe the focus of Satoshi Kon’s anime movie Millenium Actress. Only two Japanese films get a theatrical release today which means that I’m bulking the post out with an extended trailer for Wong Kar Wai’s forthcoming film, The Grand Master.
What about the Japanese box office from last weekend? Unfortunately there are only two Japanese films in the top five. Phoenix Wright has dropped from 5 to 7, Arakawa is at 12 and Berserk is nowhere.
01. In Time
02. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
03. Always: Sunset on Third Street 3
04. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
05. The Wings of the Kirin
Here are the trailers for the filmss getting a theatrical release today.

Wong Kar Wai’s film, The Grand Master focusses on the life of Wing Chun grand master Ip Man. It sees him reunite with familiar names who have worked in most of his films: the insanely handsome and talented Tony Leung and the insanely beautiful and talented Brigitte Lin. I thought she had retired but she makes her comeback with this film. I spent my high school years watching Wong Kar Wai films so he occupies a special place in my cinematic upbringing and I cannot wait for this.

I love the anime Eve no Jikan (Time of Eve). I was laughing and emotional with every episode that when the final one came by I was so damn emotional… ahem. I let my reserve slip a bit there. Fact is Eve no Jikan, Mawaru Penguindrum and Kino no Tabi (Kino’s Journey) are the only anime that I have fallen in love with in the last te years so when I heard that Yoshiura, creator of Eve no Jikan, was back with another anime I had to post the trailer!!!!
The story takes place in an underground world where people live in tunnels and lead quiet lives. Patema is one of these people but she is also a princess and she enjoys exploring dangerous places. One day she finds a secret that will change everything.
