Third Window Films continues its run of interesting releases with Underwater Love which has the intriguing subtitle A Pink Musical. Soft-core and musicals. Sounds like an interesting mix, so what does the trailer reveal?
The film follows a story of unrequited love. A middle-aged soon to be married Asuka is on her way to work in a fish factory when she encounters an old high school friend named Aoki. This is strange because he drowned when he was 17 and he looks like a Kappa. Seizing her chance, Asuka hides Aoki from her fiancé who just happens to run the factory she works at and must decide what she will do with her future. This involves sex and musical numbers scored by German/French synth-pop duo Stereo Total.
The brains behind this include pink-film director Shinji Imaoka and legendary cinematographer Christopher Doyle who has collaborated with Wong Kar-Wai, Jim Jarmusch and Takashi Shimizu. The film has received excellent reviews and the extras look awesome what with the possibility of getting a soundtrack as well as getting a look at the working processes of Shinji Imaoka and Christopher Doyle!
