LL Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out. This track screams use me. It’s the perfect slice of old school East Coast Hip Hop back from when MC’s were lyricists and beats were HARD.
This is one of the best Hip Hop singles ever released. It comes from the album of the same name and it was produced by the legendary Marley Marl. It’s harder than 99% of the stuff you have ever heard! LL Cool J verbally punches out with dextrous rhymes and adventurous flow that reveals just how intelligent he is, never mind the fact that his delivery is just ferocious.
It is stuff that gets the blood flowing and the brain smiling from that Larry King sample at the intro all the way to the end.
What about the anime? This stuff is equally old school:
Akira, Patlabor 2, Ghost in the Shell, Tenchi Muyo, Ninja Scroll, End of Evangelion, Dragon Ball Z, Fist of the North Star, Street Fighter 2 The Movie, Gunsmith Cats, Shadow Skill (I think), Tetsujin 28… Yu Yu Hakusho and Jin Roh possibly? Was there a King of Fighters Movie?
I’m clutching and guessing at the end of that list but it is indicative of the skill that the AMV creator Elizabeth Kirkindall exercises. 15+ anime (and Shaft) cut into an AMV that lasts around 5 minutes that actually manages to match the visuals with the music and not just that but time the lip flaps so it matches LL Cool J’s performance.
Take the section between 2:50 and 3:05, it has 5 anime cut around 11 times achieving perfect synchronicity. Speaking as somebody who has made an AMV, I can only look on in awe at the demonstration.
Enough from me… Here’s the track:
