Genkina hito predicts the 2011 BAFTA Awards

With the BAFTA’s (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) due to take place on the 13th February, the British film industry gets a chance to wave the flag for British talent and reward films from the rest of the world. The issue of what is or isn’t a British film depends upon the amount of British involvement but it is safe to say that Britain had a good year (apart from the UK Film Council getting axed).

Anyway, here’s what I think should win. When the results are read out on BBC One I’ll be able to compare and contrast. In the meantime I’ll probably change my mind after watching a few more films but first…

Genkinahito Decides the 2011 Academy Awards

Here are the results

The Academy Awards or Oscars are on the 27th of February, the nominations were released on the 25th of January. I’ll list them here. It may change because I’m going to watch True Grit and Black Swan but this is the list and what I think should win. If you want to read what I thought about the films then check the reviews section.

Displaying AMV’s through Vodpod

So when I started this whole AMV of the week strand I was utilising the interactivity and connectivity of web 2.0 services – you know, display YouTube videos on the blog. I didn’t count on YouTube blocking some of them (those fiends!).

I first noticed it around Christmas when trying to play Silent Hill 2 and Soredemo videos I had embedded in my Winter Music post. Then I forgot about it.

Awards Season: Golden Globes Results

The awards season has already begun for the collective global film industry and everybody will be engaging in an awful lot of back-slapping for the next couple of weeks. How many are worth watching? Well none of them really. Award ceremonies live and die over their nominations and results but can never encompass the entire output of the medium and can never be the final word on anything.

Genki AMV Challenge Conclusion

So I have finished the AMV. That is the second of my New Year’s resolutions completed (start easy and build up, I say). I will reveal it later but for now… I will carry on with this post.

The anime I chose to use was one that made such a (negative) impression on me whilst the song I used was one that fit it perfectly…

Anime: High School of the Dead

AND

Song: Dirt Bike Annie – Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things

Genki AMV Challenge Part Deux

Upon telling a friend about my AMV challenge, she remarked: “It should be easy. You can throw something together.”

I smiled and set my coffee down. “Ah yes, but you see, I am very busy. And lackadaisical. Plus I want to drag this out for a few posts,” I replied nonchalantly and, if my memory serves me correctly, I proceeded to dazzle her with my conversational skills).

That was how the conversation went in my mind, anyway.  So this is an update post about my AMV which details the foundations of the AMV and drags things out:

2011 A Year of Promise at the Movies (with trailers)

I wanted to do a proper post saying goodbye to 2010 and hello to 2011 but a combination of flu and a hang-over laid me out for a few days and all I could manage was a half-hearted adieu to a year that had been good.

2010 was a pretty good year for film (from what I saw, at least). 2011 looks like it is shaping up to have some interesting releases as well. Here’s what has interested me from the trailers and information on the web.

Genki AMV Challenge

Hello 2011 and my first post of the year is one shot through with nostalgia for things a decade old as well as setting out one ambition for the new year – make an AMV.

Anyway, most people who watch anime will have watched an AMV. For those not in the know, AMV stands for:

Anime    Music    Video

A quick definition would be: fan-made creations that take clips from anime and synchronise them to music.
