82nd Oscar Results – A Fleeting Response

Just a quick post to say that the results came out as expected although I was surprised that Precious won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and A Prophet didn’t win the Best Foreign Language category.

Most importantly, Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker swept up the major Oscars.

Kathryn Bigelow won the Oscar for Best Director, becoming the first woman to do so (the fact she is the first female director to win an Oscar in this category shows that the English-language film world is such a long way behind the rest of the world).

Anybody who has watched Near Dark knows she has heaps of style and talent but I think we all expected someone like Jane Campion or Sofia Coppola to do it first.

So congratulations and thank you for what to what was one of the best films of last year.
